  • Tom Reusing was active in judo and wrestling as a child and as a marine. He became formally trained as a US Oyama Karate (Kyokushin) bare knuckle fighter in the early 1990’s. He traveled to championship tournaments and secured several titles as a full knock down competitor.

In 1994, Tom met Rickson Gracie at a seminar in Atlanta. He decided immediately that he would study Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After fulfilling a prior commitment to live in Uchideshe with Japanese fighters, teaching and training under Shihan Oyama, Tom left for California determined to train in Gracie jiu-jitsu.

Tom’s employment took him to South Orange County where he was fortunate to train with Rickson’s instructors, Marc Eccard and David Kama, from the end of 1995 through 1998.

After starting a family and moving several times, Tom was able to train with Alan Goes in Huntington Beach from 1998 until early 2000. Another move took him to a remote area in Riverside County where he found a group of local Brazilian jiu-jitsu players to train with in order to maintain the techniques he had learned.

In 2003 Tom met Ricardo Guimaraes and began training with Gracie Barra Temecula. Since 2003, he has made Brazilian jiu-jitsu an avocation training daily and competing on a regular basis.

In 2007, he received permission from Master Carlos Gracie to open Gracie Barra Corona, which is a flourishing traditional Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy in the Inland Empire.
